the growing popularity of cellphones for teens and younger is the texting and emails... and talking with friends...this type of usage is universal... according to a Spanish Media network... two Spanish children ages 12 and 13 yrs were admitted to Children and Youth Mental Health Centre in Lieide near Barcelona... for cellphone addiction... the parents admitted them because they couldn't perform normal activities without their cellphones...they were doing poorly in school and lied to family members to get money for their phones...the children had had their phones for 18mos... the parents hadn't restricted their usage until they noticed it became a problem... Dr. Utges who runs the health center recommends that parents not allow children to have cellphones until their are 16 yrs..
have you had to restrict your child's cell phone usage? were they becoming addicted? do you feel that children having cellphones at a young age is good for emergencies? what age do you feel is appropriate?

i got mine when i went into jr high. i was goin to a new school in a different neighborhood so i kinda needed it
EDIT: but i only had call and text. i didnt get internet or any of that materialistic stuff untill now because im going into high school in another different neighborhood and my new phone has gps and stuff soo yeahhh

When they start to go to friends houses and different places. so 12 or 13.
You need to relax. Give them 200 mins and unlimited texting. ($ 20 per month) They will not become addicted and won't do poorly in school.
-As long as you tell them not to text during dinner and important events.. when your talking.
-Also tell them not to talk on their cell phones for long convo's . tell them to use the home phone.
-if they are bad take their phone away.
** Also if your so WORRIED about your kids doing 'poorly' in school then Ask the phone company to turn their phones off from the time school starts to the time school ends.**
RELAX. IT WILL BE OK.
