Confused about my mental health care?

Confused about my mental health care?Basically, I was hospitalised in late 2006 for a psychotic episode. I was out after a couple of months and given a psychiatrist to see every few months or so, as well as a Community Psychiatric Nurse who I see at least once a month.

The problem is that whenever I see my nurse or psychiatrist, I tell them about my problems, such as social anxiety (which I have very severely) and they just listen but won't prescribe me any medication, which I really feel I need.

They did provide a therapist for me, but not only did I not find him helpful, my nurse also let it slip that the contents of my sessions with him were shared with the entire mental health team as part of their practice. I found this very upsetting as he'd told me our sessions would be confidential, and I stopped seeing him any more.

Also, the mental health team have a social group, which they organise, where they invite young people who are mental hospital outpatients to do activities like go to the cinema, go for a meal, etc. My psychiatrist revealed to me that at these social groups the people organising it take notes on people's behaviour and report back.

So I feel a little paranoid that for any activity they plan for me, it turns out there's an ulterior motive. Also, I'm frustrated that they won't provide me any medication when I'm sure I need it. I don't see what good they are doing me. Should I cut off contact with them?

If u feel that they dont help u, u can try contacting some new nurses, remember that u know best urself when (if) u need medications, no1 knows u better than u do.

If your diagnosis is psychosis, your Psychiatrist should definitely have you on medication. Your nurse cannot prescribe medications for you, only your psychiatrist. If you are in a "group therapy" setting, all information revealed disclosed in that group is open for discussion and should be understood, by all clients and most importantly staff to be confidential. Any sessions between you and your doctor, nurse or case manager should NEVER be discussed outside with anyone; you are protected by the governments HIPPA laws; if you find otherwise, you have a case that they are in violation. My suggestion is to have a family member take you to another Psychiatrist for an evaluation and treatment plan and see if you require medication and private therapy. If you feel you need it, you are your best indicator. Good luck and don't give up, I have bipolar and anxiety disorder and the right medications and therapy do help.
