Mental health stigma is EVERYWHERE!?

Mental health stigma is EVERYWHERE!?when i first became ill, everyone at work thought i was faking. my step dads called me a lazy bitch n thought i just didnt want to work. im so good at hiding it now im like two different people.

having a really bad day n had abuse on here that my illness dont exsist in other countries and to get over myself.
Im sure this is how most people feel about us/ me, that im a liar? It not the first time to be accused of that.
Why is this stigma allowed to continue? its not fair, my so called friends make out that other illnesses r worse than what i have etc. How can that not make u feel worse about urself, tho im sure he didnt intentionally make me feel even more like shit.
Cannot bear the stigma!

Answer by Me
Hmm,well ''normal'' ppl dont/cant understand what u r going through, and they'll never will because they dont know how it feels to be ill,and they dont know what u have to go through everyday to survive,so let them say whatever they want. Maybe they r just jealous, cause u r stronger than them, maybe they wont be able to cope with what u have. Dont listen to them!!

Answer by Drain-Bamaged
People are afraid of things they don't understand, things they can't change or avoid solely by their actions, and they can be incredibly stupid about making bold 'knowing' statements and opinions about most anything, even topics about which they are more profoundly ignorant. In fact, fear, ignorance, bigotry, prejudice, and profoundly unmerited vanity and self-confidence is the major part of what it is to be human. If you want proof, spend an hour watching chimps in the zoo and understand that about 98-99% of our genome is identical to theirs, then watch how their behaviors are very much like those of the schoolyard or family reunion. Ask yourself how many chimps OR humans discovered the Laws of gravity, or REALLY understand and use them to their benefit. My bet is the chimps come off pretty well.

So, why should you accept a self-inflated ignorant pompous-ahole's assessment about you and your medical condition as being important to you in any way? People ENJOY watching monkey antics and don't choose to accept ANY of it as having any serious bearing upon their own understanding of their illnesses or personal reality. They certainly wouldn't allow a chimp to persuade them to stop taking medications or seeking treatment for tuberculosis or cancer! Statements of prejudice and bigotry are also just so much more noise unless you choose to internalize them. Choose NOT to, and try to remember who it is who accepts you for who you are and who supports you in your efforts to improve your health and your experience of the world and choose to spend more time with them, and to spend less time with or even listening to the other team which doesn't realize that every time they open their mouths the reveal that their teachers mentally placed cone-hats on their heads while attempting to educate them.

Stigmas continue because people are simply highly-evolved, but also still also incredibly ignorant animals despite how differently we live from our nearest primate relations. It's not fair and it's not pretty. BUT, you can choose to spend more time with the SOCIALLY-EVOLVED and the EDUCATED or those willing to learn and those willing to empower and support their associates as opposed to those who act out the worst legacies of their hairier forbears. They're ill-informed idiots who don't deserve your thoughts or time. And that's REALLY the only useful answer I can give you other than that if you look, you'll find the right people to associate with and to teach by sharing your experiences. Good Luck in your hunt.

Bipolar disorder - health insurance discrimination - awareness?

Bipolar disorder - health insurance discrimination - awareness? As a Bipolar person who has been successfully medicated with lithium for several years and otherwise takes great care of himself it drives me "crazy" that in most states Bipolar disorder is an automatic declination with health insurance companies (for private policies). It is not viewed as a pre-existing insurable condition like many other physical problems (and yes Bipolar disorder is of a physical basis). What bothers me even more is that people seem to be completely unaware that this discrimination goes on with our health insurance companies. I feel that there is no voice out there for the millions of people affected by mental health disorder health insurance discrimination. Does anyone know of any groups I can get involved with to spread awareness of this issue (aside from the usual writing congress reps regarding mental health parity legislation)???? Thanks!

Answer by ★Starkissed ★
I pay $ 500 a month for medical, dental, and vision. I'm not happy about it at all. After the monthly payment I only have to pay $ 15-30 for co-pays and that's it. Everything else is covered except for my contact lenses.

Answer by Me-owww
Lets see if I can remember it all.

Right now for just me I have a $ 2200 deductible and the ONLY thing that is covered at all before I meet the deductible is my annual well woman. Everything else is out of pocket until that deductible is met. After deductible MOST things 80% co-pay. no vision. I am also paying for aflac right now.

Next year it will be...

A $ 500 allowance that will be used before I have to start meeting the deductible which will be $ 2400

After that 80% co-pay on most things
$ 4.00 scripts generic
free annual well woman

no vision

I pay right now about $ 45.00 a month

next year I am dropping the aflac insurance and will be paying around $ 38.00/mo.

So while I am actually paying less, the premiums are actually higher. I am just dropping the aflac.

The thing that really gets me is with all other company insurance plans I have been with you usually have a doctor visit or hospital co-pay from the start, but not with this company, you have to pay out of pocket first. I fell down a flight of stairs back in June and had to go the the hospital and I was shocked to get a bill for the full amount, the insurance covered NOTHING!

Answer by hotvw1914cc
Your ins. price is real good. Great benefits, sadly ins. will continue to increase because of med, Drs. and hospital charges.

Guns and the "mentally ill"?

Guns and the "mentally ill"?I was looking at the basic gun laws for each state and noticed NY says you can't buy a handgun if you have ever "suffered any mental illness"

Does this mean a 28 year old woman wouldn't be allowed to own a handgun because she suffered from postpartum depression when she had a kid at 18?

Does this mean if someone, as a child, is diagnosed with the popular ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), which occurs in up to 10% of the population accoding to the National Institutes of Health, they're not allowed to own a handgun in NY?

Does this mean if someone suffers from one of the many anxiety disorders, such as Acrophobia (fear of heights), Claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces), Arachnophobia (fear of spiders), that they're not allowed to own a handgun in NY? A study by the National Institute of Mental Health found that up to 18% of the population suffers from these types (phobias) of anxiety disorders and are the #1 most common mental illness for women, #2 for men over 25.
Gypsy Girl: ADHD is kinda unique in that everything about it is heavily questioned. From its vague list of symptoms which allows its diagnoses to be extremely subjective and inclusive (the fact that this life-long illness is present in up to 10% of the population (according to the National Institutes of Health)) seems to support this), to its treatment, to whether it is in fact even a disorder. It's not like schizophrenia or some such where nobody (except anti-psychiatry people) really question it.

mainah: The National Institute of Mental Health says phobias are the #1 most common mental illness in women of all ages, #2 most common in men above 25. So your claim that phobias aren't considered mental illnesses isn't supported by reality. And it doesn't say "if (you're dangerous/have lingering symptoms/etc) ". It says "...ever suffered any mental illness" Any. Ever.

Larry: I wouldn't mind a *supported* answer to any of those.

Answer by yoyoyoyo
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!!!

Answer by Akesha

I believe that the state of NY will do anything possible to prevent any citizen from owning a gun.

Answer by LipSmear
Yep, that's what it means. Don't ever get help for any mental illness...I would hate for it to ruin your chance of owning a weapon! (Maybe you should contact your local elected officials...)

Answer by jensarcon
Good question. I know some states don't allow you to own a gun if you've ever been committed, which would be something you could actually prove, but NY seems to have some pretty vague wording there. I guess there are a lot of New Yorkers who are in illegal possession of firearms.

Mental Health: ??United Airlines Mental Health Insurance Policy?

??United Airlines Mental Health Insurance Policy? My relative is a pilot for United Airlines. She says that according to United's policy, she CAN recieve therapy/counseling for whatever issues she may want to see a therapist for, but that if she does, United will NOT allow her to fly, thereby reducing her income for whatever period she is not flying.

She tells me that United says that this is because if she needs a therapist or counselor, then she must be mentally unfit to do her job of flying an aircraft.

Therefore she says she cannot see a therapist/counselor, even though she doesnt have a problem that would affect her ability to operate the types of aircrafts that she has been flying for the past 20 years.

My question is simple: Is this true?

I have no access to United's insurance policy information or the company's guidelines regarding this matter.

If any pilots, or former pilots could give me any insight to this situation, that would be great.

Or if anyone knows how to get a hold of this information, that would be great too.

My thinking is that she simply does not want to see a therapist, even though those of us around her think it is very necessary, and is giving this as an excuse. Obviously, we cant be any wiser because we dont have access to the same information.

Her explanation also doesnt make sense to me because my own therapist says that he counsels pilots of other commercial airlines, as well as surgeons, and they are not at risk of their company/hospital telling them that they are mentally unfit to fly or operate because of a therapy session.

Thank you SO SO much if you can give me any facts or info.
Also if you have an answer it would be good if you could let me know where the answer is from...its just that i have to have facts to convince my relative i know otherwise.
One more thing...maybe i gave the wrong impression that she has a mental illness or is using chemical substances...this is not true, its simply a matter of therapy for personal or emotional matters. Mental illness is not the case here.

Answer by shane
Not sure but, All i know is that panic gripped Wall Street after a dismal US retail sales report reminded investors that consumer spending -- which accounts for the bulk of US economic activity -- is declining sharply.

Answer by EHFAR
Whoa! In my opinion, this is geting too big!!!! If you work for ANY company, it is by law that the employer has no rights to the info of why an employee is sick! Doesn't matter what the illness iss. Mental or physical. It is not the company's priviledge. This is not exclusive to the airline industry. We all have guaranteed privacy with our health issues. The only thing I can think of right now is medication. There are specific meds that pilots and fas can not take while employed. Some anti-anxiety pills...all psychotropic meds....etc...Don't know detailed list, but..... I digress...So, yes as an airline employee..pilot or fa...you are safe within your job to get counseling. Geez, let's never have that change... life can be tough!

Answer by Benton
That's interesting....but I highly doubt that it's true. Companies offer therapy and counseling services through third party Employee Assistance Programs specifically for that reason. That is private information and of no right to the employer to be in the middle of. However, I am not sure if there are different stipulations for certain professions based on having accountablility for others safety, i.e. flying a plane! So, although 99% of the time that information is private, there may be a slight chance that her EAP would have to provide her employer with her mental assessment if it would cause harm to others. Make sense? Try to google EAP law or something that tells you if it's legal or not.

Answer by mbrcatz
When you are in the business of flying 500 people around the country, you need to be at your mental and physical best.

So absolutely, if there are any mental health issues, you shouldn't be flying.

This isn't a rule for United Airlines - it's a Federal Aviation Association rule. It's the LAW. It's different if you're flying privately, but she's NOT. She's got 500 other lives in her hands.

Answer by Tincan Navy
It is called a sea duty screening. Shot record also gets updated.

Answer by Mrsjvb
there is a sea duty screening that everyone goes through when returning to sea duty, surface or Sub. There is also a deployment screening for anyone returning to a deployable billet( such as aircrew or DIRSUP shops)

as to what, exactly, medical issues they check for, I do not know. But Sub screenings are tougher than surface ones.

Can my Mental Health be causing these physical symptoms?

Can my Mental Health be causing these physical symptoms?I went out with a few friends last night and had a few drinks, I have to admit drinking definitely helps take my depression away (I know its not good in the long run that is why I will only have a few drinks once or twice a month). This morning I awoke in a half asleep half awake state and my mind was going in a million different directions at a million miles a minute so I got up and for a good half hour to an hour I had no idea whether or not I was awake or asleep. For the first time in my life I could not interpret reality and started to panic thinking that I was going psychotic. My mind felt real heavy and dull. I managed to fall back asleep and woke up a couple of hours later feeling better but shaken by the whole experience. Never in my life have I ever went longer than 15 seconds without coming back to my senses and realizing that I was not asleep upon waking up. Now all day I have been having stomach pain, nausea, dizziness, feeling as if in a dream like state, depressed, body pain, head pressure, etc. I almost feel like I am really sick but I know I am not. Could have my mental health triggered this mornings episode and that led to all of my physical symptoms following afterward? Anyone think that this morning may have been an acute psychotic episode? What can I do to make myself better? I am terrified because I don't want to lose my sanity, please help. Any advice or relations would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
I take no medication and am seeing a therapist once a month for my pre existing depression / anxiety disorder. I rarely drink and last night I would consider myself in between buzzed and drunk.

Answer by Stephanie
You should seek help from a doctor. Disorientation, head pressure, dizziness, all of these things can be serious malfunctions that aren't just "mental health," it could literally be a physically problem in your brain such as brain swelling. If your condition doesn't improve, you should call your doctor and seek advice on whether or not to go to the hospital.

Answer by Kate
No, this was NOT an acute psychotic episode. Psychotic episodes don't last for a matter of seconds, less than a minute - they last for hours, days, or weeks if left untreated. You were disoriented because you were drunk, depressed, and woke up in the middle of the night. Alcohol does crazy things to our brains, especially when our brains are already abnormal due to the chemical imbalances that cause depression. You are not losing your sanity. If you were really losing grip on your sanity, you wouldn't be worried about it it, because you would be unaware of reality. So as long as you can think about and worry about your sanity, you are still very sane.

It sounds much more like you woke up having a panic attack. Panic attacks can make us FEEL like we are losing our minds, like we have no grip on reality, like we're going insane. It makes you lose grip on what's really going on around you, which is terrifying. It makes your mind race with a million thoughts, none of which you feel like you can grasp. That is a panic attack, and they are very scary but they are very brief.

Many people who have panic attacks feel physically ill for hours or even a day or two afterward. They feel almost flu-like - tired, irritable, nauseous, achy, almost hung over. This is totally normal of a panic attack. Everything you describe sounds like you woke up having a panic attack in the middle of the night, and now you're feeling the fallout of that. Alcohol is notorious for causing panic attacks, especially in already depressed or anxious people.

Lay off the alcohol in the future. If you do drink then only have one or two, don't get drunk. The more you drink, the greater risk you put yourself at to have a panic attack, or worse. I know it makes you feel better but it's not worth it. If you are struggling with your depression then seek real help instead of self medicating - talk to a therapist, see a psychiatrist who can prescribe you antidepressants, make necessary life changes, etc. Self medicating is dangerous and not helpful to you at all.

Take care.

Probably not. Most places are required to do a background check. If they don't they can get in big trouble.

Answer by StandFree1903
I may not live in the USA, but I am pretty sure if you have a mental health problem in the past you cannot purchase a gun due to your mental state, from watching the Bowling For Columbine documentary I am sure they ask a medical questionnaire and for your doctors details so then can do a check.

Answer by Bronnii
In Australia you can't but we have really tight gun control laws here. They find out about it because there is an application process to get a licence that you need to have & part of that includes them being able to access you health records under the Freedom of Information Act (you have to give your consent which is part of the application)

I feel like you shouldn't even work with the Mental Health, if you're not able to be calm and you're suppose to be very patient; with people with disabilities. Why have a job; if you're looking for the drawbacks. The best career you can have is doing something you're passionate about, something you love!
I am taking behavioral science; because, I want to be a mental health therapist. If you like working with people, that would be the benefit; plus, the pay isn't so bad either!

Answer by ~*Belle*~
Obviously, you're going to have to cope with a lot of people's problems and if you're a caring, empathising person that'll be difficult. But you will learn ways to deal with that.

Benefits I'd say is the fact that you're helping people, you're getting them through something that they can't do by themselves. They need you.

Answer by Greywolf
The benefits are being able to help someone - and as is the case usually, we end up learning from our patients, too.
To provide resources, tools, options, to arm them with knowledge and understanding of themselves and their world...to prove hope, and make dreams come alive again.... THAT is what we do.

The drawbacks - you can't help everyone. And you can't do it for them. This is a very frustrating thing at times but the realization that you can't make that journey for them and you can't make them "want" to be successful will get you through those times.

Some people that come to you want help and some don't. We help those we can.

Answer by Dave Gould
I've been an NLP/hypnotherapist for 11 years.

I have no real stress about it. Occasionally, I get abuse cases - which are harrowing to say the least - and feel compelled to help.

I imagine that therapists who aren't actually very good (which accounts for 70+% of them) get quite stressed whenever a client has the courage to tell them it didn't work.

Some therapists empathise too much. If you take on the client's problem, not only do you take on their stress, you're almost as limited as they are.

Lastly, don't expect a lot of gratitude. Unless you actually saved their life, you probably won't hear from them again. But you shouldn't do it for gratitude - you should do it for them.

Answer by INTERWIZZ9000
NOT THAT I AM AN OFFICIAL THERAPIST (I JUST TRY AND HELP PEOPLE IN AN ONLINE FORUM)
BUT I HEAR THE PROFESSIONALS DISCONNECT THEMSELVS FROM THE "CLIENT" AND DO NOT GET EMOTIONALLY INVOLVED
THIS IS TO KEEP THEIR OWN SANITY NO DOUBT
BUT SEEMS A LITTLE HEARTLESS

I GUESS OTHER STRESS FACTORS WOULD BE TRYING TO REMEMBER EACH PERSONS SITUATION AND WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT THE LAST TIME YOU SAW THEM AND TRYING NOT TO GET TOO INVOLVED WITH THEM AS WELL

THE BENIFITS (I HAVE FOUND) IS THE GREAT FEELING THAT YOU KNOW YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE ELSES LIFE
AND ALSO THAT PEOPLE CAN COME TO YOU IF THEY EVER FEEL LIKE THEY NEED HELP AND YOU ARE DOING YOUR BIT TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE

I COULD GO ON HERE BUT I THINK THEY ARE THE MAIN REASONS
I HOPE THIS ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION!!

over-analysis, does it hurt your mental health and your chances of being happy?

over-analysis, does it hurt your mental health and your chances of being happy?I think i over-analyze EVERYTHING.

It seems liek whenever I analyze things by writing in my diary, i am the most unhappy.

But when I stop writing...I am happier.

Why is this?

Can over-analyzing things hurt your mental health and make you depressed?

How does one know if they over-analyze something?

Answer by mustlovedogs
It's clear for you that you are happier when you don't over think things. I guess you know you're over-analyzing when you find that it's your thoughts that are negative, and lead to worry and fear. You can write out your fears in your diary, if you are also willing to challenge them and ask what the evidence is for them. It is common that brooding on things depresses us. I'm guilty of it myself. :)

Answer by phishphan78
Over analyzing things makes me anxious and sad. It is good to reflect, but try to find a balance. Focus on the good things about your life and what makes you happy, and spend time doing things you love. This can help change your perspective on things, and you may begin to realize that little things in life really aren't all that important! Good luck and stay positive! There's always something to smile about.

Answer by dontworry
Yes, it is proven that it does. A survey was done for what the happiest professions were. They found that people in the field of psychology were some of the least happy people.

It just shows that sometimes knowing things, especially about the truth, is not always good.

Mental Health: How do you help a young lady that is being sexually abused by her father?

How do you help a young lady that is being sexually abused by her father?Since this is a serious subject, I ask that only the serious minded answer. There is a 20 year old young lady that lives down the street from me. She definetly has mental problems. She is very slow, carries a doll to church, has very, very poor personal hygiene and lives in a house that is pure filth. She resides with her mother, father and brother. The mother has mental problems, as well as a 15 year old boy. The young lady works a job through vo-tech and gets very, very little pay each week and her mother takes it for gas and cigarettes for herself. As suspected, the father has been molesting her for years. This finally came out last week when she was seen running down the road completely naked and told a neighbor she was fleeing from her father. I have called DHS, the Sherrifs dept, our local mental health center and can get no help for this poor girl. Does anyone out there have any suggestions. I am not a teenager writing about this. I am indeed old enough to be her grandmother. She attends my church and has told many sad stories about how she is treated at home. I want to help her, but I have just hit dead ends no matter who I call.

Answer by Cherish Cheyenne
call the state police and try to get the boy and the girl out of the house look in the phone book or just call 911 and they'll connect you to the state police or the special victims unit don't give up though you need to call someone if the police don't help you then try telling a neighbor and tell them you don't know what to do and see if they'll help you

Answer by julesrules
Look up CPS--------------------- Child Protective Services or the Abuse hotline.
Yes, and the State Police. They will direct from there.

Answer by Sharon
Since this girl is 20, she is an adult. here, in Texas, we have an Adult Protective Services that investigates cases about the elderly or special needs people who are not teens. Go to their office if you do not get much satisfaction over the phone. Keep going up the hierarchy of authority in your city----city attorney, county attorney, mayor, congressman, etc. It just depends on how energetic you are and how committed to help this young woman.

Answer by adventure30
Are there any other witnesses willing to speak up. If you can get a group of concerned individuals that is a great place to start. There are adult protective services as well and they have the same authority for disabled adults as CPS has with children. Oddly enough, you may be better off starting with Child Protective Services. If she is developmentally challenged and emotionally a minor, they may be willing to intervene or at least tell you where to start. You may need to call the police while at her place of employment and have them come there. That way she can give a statement. Either way, you should file an official police report and have anyone who witnessed this do the same. Alot of times nothing can or will be done until after a report is filed. Someone maybe able to fight for custody of her. If he molested her before she was of legal age, the statute of limitations have likely not expired. Also you need to look for advocates for the disabled. If there aren't any, you may have found your calling. Either way place a complaint with CPS about the condition of the home, the boy, and molestation of the girl. The biggest problem facing the young lady is that usually, there is no place for her to go unless someone volunteers. The Sheriff and the Mental Health Center know there are a shortage of beds nationwide. There isn't even enough room to keep patients whose mental illness causes them to be a danger to society. Patients with a history of murder and rape are often released once they take enough pills to think straight. They quit their meds and wander unsupervised in society until they commit another crime. As far as the boy goes, foster care is sometimes worse then where they came from. I would highly recommend trying to locate a potential family on your own if you or someone else has the time or the heart to find someone. Also, try to locate a private foster care program, they are sometimes better off with a better selection of homes, and may have some advice. Also, they can help a family get set up with less restrictions (usually) if you find one. If the pastor intervenes it may improve the chances. It really does take a village, the question is can you build one. Hope I helped.

Mental Health: Research Identifying The Source question,is it primary or secondary?

Research Identifying The Source question,is it primary or secondary? This is the question: You are researching the history of mental health care in the twentieth century. Select the term that correctly identifies the type of source.

A psychiatrist's case files
-Primary
-Secondary

Answer by parrotjohn2001
A psychiatrist's case files would generally be considered a primary source, particular in they had important patients.
Or if the psychiatrist was important in their own right, say Sigmund Freud, his files would be considered primary.

One of the best ways to judge whether a source is primary or secondary is to ask: Was it contemporaneous? Did it happen at the same time as the event you are studying, or is it an explanation written afterwards. Caveat: newspaper accounts would often be considered primary sources.

Answer by caligirl
Primary...however if you were aksed to interview the psychiatrist that would be a secondary source.

This is National Mental Health Care Week, do you plan to contact at least one unstable person?

This is National Mental Health Care Week, do you plan to contact at least one unstable person?Just had to share this:

Elderly Road Trip

While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside
restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the
restaurant, and resumed their trip. When leaving, the elderly woman
unknowingly left her glasses on the table and she didn' t miss them
until they had been driving about forty minutes. By then, to add to the
aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they could find
a place to turn around, in order to return to the restaurant to retrieve
her glasses.

All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic grouchy
old man. He fussed and complained, and scolded his wife relentlessly
during the entire return drive. The more he chided her, the more
agitated he became. He just wouldn't let up one minute. To her relief,
they finally arrived at the restaurant.

As the woman got out of the car, and hurried inside to retrieve
her glasses, the old geezer yelled to her, 'While you're in there, you
might as well get my hat and the credit card.'

Next taxpayer bailout: Abortion industry,What do you think about Obama's bailout for the Abortion industry?

Next taxpayer bailout: Abortion industry,What do you think about Obama's bailout for the Abortion industry? Will Barack Obama provide the abortion industry with a bailout of its own, costing taxpayers billions of dollars?

The Obama-Biden Transition Project posted a plan on its website called "Advancing Reproductive Rights and Health in a New Administration."
" It is signed by a coalition of 66 groups including Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the National Organization for Women and the American Civil Liberties Union.

The outline lists proposed steps for Obama's first 100 days in office including the following:

* Increase funding for Title X (which funds Planned Parenthood) to $ 700 million from the current $ 300 million
* Expand coverage of taxpayer-funded abortions under Medicaid
* Promote sex education in schools and communities at cost of $ 50 million
* Provide birth control at colleges
* Expand taxpayer-funded abortions to federal employees, military facilities, the Peace Corps and federal prisoners
* Increase funding for Title V Maternal and Child Health services to $ 850 million from $ 666 million
* Provide international abortion providers with $ 1 billion
* Increase funding for the CDC's school HIV and STD prevention programs from $ 40.2 million to $ 66.6 million
* Increase funding for substance abuse and mental health services programs for pregnant women and mothers from $ 12 million to $ 70 million
* De-fund abstinence only programs
* Re-examine Bush administration policies that block or limit women's access to emergency contraception
* Pass the Freedom of Choice Act
* Select judicial nominees who "demonstrate a commitment to justice civil rights, equal rights, individual liberties, and the fundamental constitutional right to privacy, including the right to have an abortion."

Obama is also trying to find ways to undo Bush administration policies dealing with abortion.

President Bush issued a regulation allowing health care workers to refuse to provide abortions if doing so conflicts with their personal, moral or religious beliefs – but the Obama is already seeking a way to repeal the measure.

I think Obama is a very sick man.

Answer by Obambi.com
Obama hates his black father

Answer by aaron b
Most of these are not that bad of ideas right up until it permits people that are too irresponsible to use birth control to murder the children they have created by their lack of planning. Pretty ridiculous when you look at it.

Answer by rodders
Would you sooner not have abortion, and let the parent and child be a drain on society.

Answer by Pyro
I think it's a first step in a new direction.
A great one at that.
Across the world there are issues related to personal contraception issues. Most of it is religious. Personally I believe a president like Obama has finally broken the mold that stuck religion and politics together which can mean bigger changes for the world.
With America's funding of international abortion he will lead quite a few other countries into doing it, such as; Canada, England and Australia all of whom are quite big supporters of American administration as sadly demonstrated even if for a short while in the war in Iraq.
Yet even so this will promote a more free lifestyle within the government and it's about time the laws of religion were left to moral choices rather than legal ones.

Answer by Goodbye Bush
Abortion doesn't need a bailout: it's a thriving industry. One of the few still growing.

Should Obama be forced to take a mental health evaluation?President Obama's behavior over the past year, and particularly the last month, borders on bizarre. The candidate who promised to bring people together and move beyond polarization has morphed into a divisive and defensive president. The president's thin skin at news conferences is now part of Washington press corps lore. His "ass kicking" comments about the Gulf oil spill were weird and un-presidential.

My mother-in-law is taking trazodone with other depression meds. Will it affect her mental health & stability? She often seems "zoned out" and she will forget what she's saying or doing. One of the other meds is cymbalta but there are others. I am worried about her mental stability especially around my children. I know these medications affect the brain. Should I be worried about her? Are there cases in which its better to take fewer medications or none at all?

Answer by La La
Anti Depressant medicine usually builds up in your system after a certain period of taking them, a gradual process, maybe weeks maybe a month to see any actual results, if any.
With mental stabilizing drugs, the only affects that could take place are the side effects, they are a very individual based drugs, this is also why they might have a giant list of occurring problems, including fatigue.

There are plenty of suppliments which are not prescription, to be taken into consideration, one i have come across is St. Johns Wort

http://nccam.nih.gov/health/stjohnswort/
* St. John's wort has been used for centuries to treat mental disorders and nerve pain.
* In ancient times, herbalists wrote about its use as a sedative and a treatment for malaria, as well as a balm for wounds, burns, and insect bites.
* Today, St. John's wort is used by some for depression, anxiety, and/or sleep disorders.

Taking too many depression medications is not a very balanced (personal opinion) in it's approach as they could counteract in their attempts to stimulate the similar or same brain chemicals , which can lead to what i claim to be a zombie like state, dependency & even worsen depression.

No one online can fully evaluate what would be appropriate for her, approach her about your concerns and try to provide other suggestions (especially counseling if she currently does not attend any sessions) as well as encouraging her to speak to her doctor to go about other ways.

Answer by Rusty
I have taken Trazodone with other anti depressants and did not have any of the side effects you described. But everyone is different so that may not be true for her. Are you certain she is not taking more then prescribed? She needs to talk to her doctor, it could also be caused by the other meds she takes, perhaps more than prescribed too. If she will not do this, you could call her doctor and tell him your concerns and he can work with HER (not you) if she's willing.

Going through a confusing phase of my life (as a teenager). Long story, but could I get some help, please?

Going through a confusing phase of my life (as a teenager). Long story, but could I get some help, please?I'm sixteen years old, seventeen come July. Junior in high school I've always been an extremely deep thinker, and I've never dealt well with emotional pain. You will probably scoff at this (because I would do the same without hesitation), but I felt very strongly for a girl my age. I will not say "love", because I acknowledge I'm young and might not know what love is. However, I could rarely look this person in the eye or speak to her without getting embarrassed. I made the mistake of thinking she felt the same way, and she didn't.

For the winter of that year (last winter, 2009), I was horribly depressed, and it felt like that event was what sparked it. I would break down into tears and worry about my mental health, etc.

Then, in spring of 2010, I pulled out of it. I felt happy all the time, and things started looking up. In September, I went back to school feeling superb. Hell, I even had a new girl that I was going out with.

At the end of September 2010, the girl decided she wanted to sleep with my friend, and we broke up. Turned out she cheated on me a lot. Anyways, I didn't really feel too bad about it. I was shocked at how apathetic I was, because a year ago such a betrayal would have destroyed me. Life still seemed good, just not as good as before.

Then, in November, something new began. I was watching a movie, and asked myself, "Does this really matter?". I asked about it here on Yahoo Answers, and the answers I got were...satisfactory. To an extent, however. Soon, almost NOTHING seemed to matter, but now the depression has changed.

Currently, including today, the depression is fueled by over-analyzations. Of EVERYTHING. If I hear a song, I ask myself, "What is this? Just a bunch of noise". I try to defend it, thinking, "It expresses emotion", and then I get to the point where I ask myself: What is emotion? Isn't it just a chemical reaction in the brain?

Soon it got to the point where my very existence was one big question. Things that never depressed me (not knowing how the universe came to be, for example) started to. And not only depress me, but freak me right the hell out. And some days my overall attitude ping-pongs back and forth. One minute I accept the way things are, and the next I'm losing my frickin' mind over it.

What IS existence? Why doesn't this make any sense to me? What is happiness, and why do we feel it? Why SHOULD we feel it? Why should *I* feel it? I try and tell myself, "Life might be pointless, but I'm just here to enjoy the ride". But then I question enjoyment itself! What is enjoying something? If another intelligent species came to visit us from space, would they have the same emotions as us?

These thoughts constantly rattle in my brain ceaselessly. The only moments of peace I have are the three minutes after I wake up from a daze, and whatever short periods of time in my day I actually enjoy myself.

Has anybody else EVER had this problem as a teenager? Do you ever get out of it? Is it linked to my depression from last year? Has existence ever just nagged at you for three months without any rest?

My God, can SOMEBODY in the world help me before I blow my damn head off? XD

If you read all this, thank you. If you can help, thank you ever so much.

When you do this self talk to yourself it is a negative thing. You have to catch yourself and reverse your thought. It may seem hard but it can be done. You have to look toward the light in life. We find meaning in the things we do. If you don't do anything, get out and volunteer somewhere. A good thing to do is hang out in the lobby of a local hospital. You will see people much, much worse off then you with a will to live.
Living inside your head will depress anyone. Do something for someone else.

i go through this myself; im 19 now and i been a analyst since a child; and sometimes it drives u crazy to the point you get body aches, i try to shut my mind off but i keep thinking about every single thing that comes along in life. I think the best way is to meditate and accept everything that comes to you, your mind would naturally quite down. You dont want to shut it off because that mindframe is who you are. And thinking is not bad, not good either. I express all my thoughts through writings, i become more in control and relaxed from that.
There is no dictionary meanings for the questions you asked or we ask; like Existance, Life etc. It's somthing that we each have find it from within our spirit, nature.

How does the mental health court work??Is there one??

How does the mental health court work??Is there one??

Answer by bobbie j
They put a pretty white coat on you that makes you hug yourself. Then they give you drugs and escort you to a fun room where it doesn't hurt if you run into the wall.

Answer by carrie
Yes there is, when someone petitions the court either a Dr. or family member feels that you need Mental Health intervention and you are not cooperating, they can take you to court for the judge to decide if you should be hospitilized. This is usually done in probate court.

Mental Health: What's the reason law enforcement is secretly targeting innocent citizens known as Targeted Individuals?

What's the reason law enforcement is secretly targeting innocent citizens known as Targeted Individuals? The government cover-up /propaganda will say :
1. Its not happening.
2. The people who claim this are schizophrenic or delusional personality disorder.
The Targeted individuals say:
1. Its classified actions using remote political control technology and methods:
a. Government nonlethal weapon research: chemical and biological warfare planted in home environment from home invasion and food tampering; remote electronic warfare that hacks into the brain and body to interfere and dismantles mental and physical health. Remote "soft-kill" weapons are used such as electromagnetic and acoustical .
b. Government remote mind control research. Mind-control research is experimental, operational, extermination. USA has had a zealous secret mind control research program for over 50 years with out any regard to destroying citizens lives. Example : COINTELPRO, MK-ULTRA, Operation Paperclip that used Nazi Scientist; "Voice-of-God" hi-tech military weapon that induces audible hallucinations or "hearing of voices in head that no one else can hear".
c. Electronic Harassment of computers, appliances, electronics of vehicle, phone, etc..
d. Vandilism and theft of property
e. Slander to say the Targeted Individual is a criminal or mental health suspect such as pedophile, fraud, schizophrenic, etc.. This motivates the work mobbing and community mobbing.
f. All levels of law enforcement (federal, state, local) involved particularily Sheriff's Departments and local police, fire and rescue personnel are involved in the targeting. Unlikely all police are involved or even know about any unconstitutional targeting of innocent citizens through constant surveillance with community mob of citizens (many linked to the illicit drug trade) who use 24/7 electronic organized group stalking which involves stealth moving surveillance methods that are not recognizable to the untrained public's eye. Targeted individuals consider this stalking and rightly so.
g. Doctors are involved and quickly like to discredit using political psychiatry.
g. Reference : Dr. John Hall's book : A New Breed: Satellite Terrorism; Authors Dr. Robert Ducan and Dr. Nick Begich; website Mindjustice.org, Freedomfchs.com, UK website "Christians Against Mental Slavery".
h. No one will talk about this targeting of citizens. A police officer in California recently admitted it is happening. Rep. Jim Guest of MO has acknowledged it is happening. Some of the targeted individuals have had innuendo made to them by police that they are not allowed to intervene because the military and/or Homeland Security is involved. Targeting of innocent citizens appears to be a secret government approved crime to interfere, maim, and kill. Over 1,000 victims are known in the USA, and many others likely have no idea they are not alone in their experiences of having the government and its citizen partners abuse and harm citizens. This targeting phenom is happening also in other countries, mostly NATO countries.
