I don't know, but they start out in poverty, and if they obtain the necessary experience and qualifications, they can progress to the $ 70,000 level in management.
I do not think you can assess the income levels of social workers, counselors and mental health professionals. I knew of one counselor, I think they are called a licensed service officer or something, who made $ 90,000 a year at a homeless advocacy center in Las Vegas' M.A.S.H. facility. I think he was paid by the federal government.
I know of a lot of social workers who start out at $ 14,000 per year, and have heard of as low as $ 12,000 per year! It depends on WHERE the worker is hired and WHO hires him or her and WHAT the worker is asked to do! There are so many variables it is ridiculous.

The official government site: http://stats.bls.gov/oco/ocos060.htm#earnings
Now in my analysis of these statistics they under-represent because they include BSW and MSW as a grand statistics. The BSW social workers bring down the overall averages (you have to remember that there are over 500 BSW programs in the US as compared to 180 MSW programs.
BSW salaries appear to range from 20-40K and MSW from 30-60K after 5 years BSW's make 30-50K and MSW 40-80K
