anyone got an opinion as to whether this could be from mental majuana damage?

anyone got an opinion as to whether this could be from mental majuana damage?Hi, I get very worried about my boyfriend's mental health, to cut a long story short he is 28 and has always smoked weed but always in an anti social way and I have noticed that when he takes a break from smoking it he is happy, balanced, affectionate and good company. (we have been together 4 years and live together) but I have also noticed that depending on how he is feeling at the time and how work is going and other external factors he can spend days/weeks where he is quiet, moody, snappy, irritable, rude, self introverted and indulgent almost in a complete world of his own where his mind just seems to be elsewhere all the time, has no sex drive or desire to give or receive affection and can be argumentative.(it has been suggested that he may have underlying issues such as bipolar but I don't know this for sure) some have even suggested aspergers as his social awareness is much less than others and he often does not feel empathy.
He also has a thing about people coughing around him as he firmly belives that they are attacking him and shouting at him. This even includes me if I cough in his presence when he is in these moods.
does anyone recognise this behaviour? Could the weed be exaggerating this? what's with the coughing problem? what's that all about?
BTW - I know a lot of people who smoke dope and always have and it doesn't do this to them!
thanks for any consttuctive help

There are a few concerning things here.

Firstly, the social impairment. Social impairment is a symptom of psychosis or Schizophrenia.

Secondly, the paranoia about coughing. He could either be hallucinating that they are in fact yelling, or he could have a paranoid delusion surrounding coughing. Both can be symptoms of psychosis or Schizophrenia.

Thirdly, the mood symptoms. This fits a more Bipolar picture to me. People with Bipolar can also experience psychosis, so perhaps this is the case. I have not known marijuana to cause Bipolar, but I've had friends become Schizophrenic from marijuana. That doesn't mean it isn't bipolar though.

It could be a drug induced psychosis, as it occurs when he is using the drug regularly; however I don't know enough about that phenomenon to have a strong enough opinion.

Have you confronted your boyfriend about his behaviour? Is he himself concerned? Try to convince him to see a doctor about this, and get him to take you with him so you can tell the doctor what he's like to be around.

The marijuana is definitely exaggerating things. Try to get him to cut back, and preferably quit.

Hi,I no longer smoke,Just a personal choice,However studys have been done on rats and it came up that mary j had (over a long period of time) schitzo personality traits in almost ALL the rats they worked with.Im not saying thats whats up with your boyfriend,But on a more personal note many of my friends that continued to use Mary and other types of drugs became bi-polar,I feel that if someone has even a slight chemical imbalance it seems to make it worse. Not to mention it's a depressent. Did you know that when herion addicts get help, usually at a clinic,The doc. absolutly will not put up with marijuana use AT ALL ! That's because it stimulates the same part of the brain.Hell my motto is moderation moderation moderation!!!!! Oddly I know people that smoke daily and there absolutly fine???? There is a bi-polar schitzo disorder,My father has it,look it up. good luck
