i have gone to a psychiatrist a couple times and i was hoping she would help me but she didn't. she was very un-encouraging, made me feel worse about myself, tired... i had to deal with everything on my own. it felt like she was another person that was beating me down, instead of helping me get back up again. i guess more patience, understanding, and care would do better. if someone at least TRIED and listened, that would be helpful :)

I have seen therapists off and on for the last 21 years. The therapists range from social workers to psychiatrists. Though I think they're really knowledgable in their field, a lot of them have gone into the field because they have psych problems themselves that they're working on and trying to heal. Many times I feel I'm helping the therapist, as much as they're helping me. I saw a new psychiatrist the other day, and she was really overweight. I have gone to alot of different 12 step programs, so I told her about Overeaters Anonymous. I think underneath weight issues...whether obesity, anorexia, bulimia, etc....there are a lot of mental problems going on. So I know she has some kind of mental health issues she's dealing with.
About the ego issue....One time I dealt with a psychiatrist who was trying a lot of different antidepressants on me because he said psychiatry is all about trial and error. And I would google the medication after he perscribed it, and then tell him the next time. I'd sometimes give him info which contradicted what he said, and he would tell me....DON'T GOOGLE. And then we'd be arguing about me googling. That was in another state, so I don't see him anymore, but I really didn't think it was a bid deal I was googling the info he was telling me. I think it was his ego. For me, I just want to have all the facts.
