i'm scared that the emotional damage mightve caused some sort of mental illness.
i just got all D's on my report card, and my parents are grounded me for a year. i get out jan 28 2010.
i dont know if i could handle another summer of that.
does anything like this happen to other kids my age or is it just me?? i think its just me but idk and my parents dont care
i get to use the computer tho but its not like i can play games or listen to music on it, its not good enough
no i've been reasoning for literally 2 hours, but everytime i get close to proving that what their doing is wrong, my dad says something like "did YOU get the grades, or did I?"
i told him that nobody else gets grounded for that long and that he's being crazy but he says "i dont give a shit about how other ppl raise their kids"
it sucks really really bad, its like a horror story.
is it possible for me to go crazy from this?
no i'm not blaming my grades on being grounded, but i'm grounded right now from having the bad grades.

well tell your parents it bothers you and try to reason with them. I did and that didnt work 4 me when i was younger so i showed them how bad i could really be and they wished they had gave me more privileges than they had. But i wont get into what i did.:P

Grounded for a year? For a bad report card? Your parents really don't know what they're doing. It's not the grounding that's hurting you, but the overreaction towards something that they should be trying to help you with. Do your best to bring your grades up and then have a talk with your parents about regaining your "privileges."

I wouldn't be concerned with the effects on your mental health in the long run. Though grounding is a good punishment for whatever it was you did, a very long time will just leave you comfortable in that state and will overall prove to be just a time-waster.
Being grounded for such an extended period of time can really make you feel isolated and leave you unable to connect with your friends when it comes to them talking about what they did over the weekend or summer or whatever. However, there is no reason to believe that being grounded all that time was the cause for bad grades. Don't worry about permanent damage.
If I turn out to be wrong in 30 years when a possible future shrink tells you that grounding messed you up a bit, then let me know. Sorry about such a harsh punishment.
I got the same thing when I was a freshman in high school. About your age...
