Mental Health: Has anyone been to mental health center for evaluation?

Has anyone been to mental health center for evaluation?Just wanting to know if this has actually helped anyone that has had to go get evaluated? A boy has gone and said he has already changed in 2 wks. Can anyone help me on this?
A 14 year old has gone because of his temper towards the school and his mom. He only lost his temper once in 3 months that he stayed with us. But his mother is REALLY there for him even though she is there, if that makes any sense.
ok, I mean she really isn't there for him even though she is there. Like going to his games, programs, anything that would mean alot to him for her to be there, she's not!
