Mental Health: I need some feed back! Please view and give an opinion!?

I need some feed back! Please view and give an opinion!?The Ventura County Mental Health Board held an Adult and Housing Services Committee Meeting in Oxnard, Ca, and was attended by Wendy and I on July 2, 2009. The board is composed of Ventura County Behavioral Health Staff, organizations, homeless shelter contractors and liaisons. The representatives purpose is to harbor and fulfill the needs of the homeless and mentally ill with government programs and certain district committees.

The representatives consisted of twelve women and one man, most were Caucasian and over forty. Although the meeting was public, there were no public guests, other than Wendy and I. The Chair called the meeting to order at approximately 10:10am. The agenda and minutes were then approved and the introduction began, which Wendy and I were included in. The Chair made announcements and opened the floor for public comments. Only one public comment was made by a representative on the NAMI, Nation Alliance for the Mentally Ill, classes with his department. The board members were called upon individually to discuss and update others on their departments, programs and discuss any other issue.

On issue in particular that caught my attention, was how Prop 63 helped the mentally ill. Proposition 63, or The Mental Health Services Act, was a California ballot proposition on the November 2, 2004 ballot. The initiative was written by then Assemblyman Darrell Steinberg and mental health lobbyist Sherman "Rusty" Selix. It was passed with 53.8%, or 6,191,691 votes. The Mental Health Services Act taxed an additional one percent of state income taxes of 1 million dollars or more to health service programs; it began January 1, 2005. 25-30,000 tax payers were directly affected by the tax, producing an estimated 750 million dollars in revenue during the budget year of 2005-06. Prop 63 created services, innovative programs, and integrated programs for the mentally ill; commissions to approve certain county mental health programs and expenditures; required state to develop mental health service programs for prevention, early intervention, education and training programs; prohibited state from decreasing funds for mental health services.

The members work together to better their services and the people they serve. The meeting lasted two and a half hours, with some members leaving before the end. The meeting was interesting and really opened your eyes as to how many people need these services, and what was provided for them.

Is it an ok paper?
