As a christian I do feel pressured by religious organizations to support and vote for conservative parties and ideals.
As a christian I feel that it is not good do such a thing based on the fact that conservative ideals are not necessarily biblical.
I vote based on conscience instead of political lables and pressure from christian organizations.
For those athestis that believe all christians vote conservative, I'm here to say that I have voted liberial in the past for a number of reasons.
Here's an example:
(example taken from a previous question on yahoo answers)
"I find it really hard to Label myself liberal or conservative. As I christian I feel pressured to be politically conservative. I cannot bring myself to doing that because I have alot of problems with what some conservatives do. Here's an example: In 1995 a conservative government was elected in Ontario. This government was hard on the poor. They were tough on women because they labeled welfare recipients as potential criminals. They cut welfare checks to the point which was hard for disabled people and women with children. The elected leader made demeaning comments about the poor. This type of behavior among our elected officials do not reflect my biblical beliefs.
They cut alot of funding to schools. In 1997 all Ontario elementary and high school teachers went on strike. The strike lasted 2 full weeks.
They amended the Ontario mental health act which was done out of prejudice and stereotypes. Jeffery Augsburg shot and killed a sports broadcaster, so the conservative government amended a law with the assumption that all mentally ill persons were potentially dangerous. Recently, the Ontario human rights commission struck down procedures how police kept records of involuntary patients. They stated that the records would allow employers and landlords to possible dicrimmate against people with disabilities. This is just one human rights violation under the Amended 'Brian's law'
They privatized public water systems which resulted a major water contamination that caused a large public health concern.

They did not properly handle a conflict between OPP and aboriginals over a land claim. OPP officers killed a protester in 1995.
This is an example of why I cannot find myself casting a ballad for Conservatives in the province.
But I'm also in a odd position because I'm a christian and don't support abortion and other things similar that typical liberals support. In 2006 the Federal liberal party was accused of a sponsorship scandal.
So, It's a tough decision for me when I vote. And sometimes I'm so conflicted over it, I sometimes do not show up on election day. However, I found a Solution to the problem in the October 2007 election. I figured that provincial liberals cannot do much about the morals issues I disagree with them on, which allowed me to cast a vote for Dalton Mcginnity with a clear conscience. In this election it was not really about religous schooling or a disagreement with John Tory, it was the history of the conservative goverment in the province. I just don't trust them.
I will never vote for the conservatives in Ontario. NEVER

It is true at in the early 90s alot of people were abusing welfare, but the goverment not only stopped the laziness, they attacked the people who needed the assistance the most. Women and the disabled.

The reason I believe the conservatives were prejudice is because you cannot sterotype all members of a minority to be violent. Just because one member of a group is violent does not mean they all are. This does not reflect the values and beliefs of our culture.
It's horrific what happend to Brian Smith but it does not mean we have the right to sterotype all persons with mental illness as murderers, and violent people.

Good on you, issues like abortion have nothing to do with politics or religion, the right wing is using it as an issue to entrap people like you, by making you feel guilty. "Vote for us else the babies get it!"

Vote however you feel is right for you. I'm totally against abortion but I think that homosexuals should be able to be gay if they want. Its like your stuck between a rock and a hard place, as my father would say.

Well the fact is that nobody should place their affiliation in the hands of a broken world system, the most important thing today for a believer is to trust God's system. While we have the right to choose as we wish, believers should choose the best leaders based on the standards of the Bible and use discernment to make their choose based on who they feel would be the best leader for their country, really there are strengths and weaknesses in ever system of government because this world is plagued with sin. It is everyone's free choice to choose as they wish.
