I am planning to do my master in mental health and I would like to work for the jail mental health system or with adults in prevention or substance abuse, rehabilitation.. (in the field mental health) .
I am evaluating two programs but they offer different acreditations and I have read about both accreditations but I don't know which one is best for what I want to do.. there is a program in Mental health with the psychology department (APA accreditation)
and
the other program name is Master of Science in Counselor Education: Mental Health Counseling Track (this program is with the education department but I checked the classes and they are all psychologies and it says that it is designed to educate and prepare individuals interested in functioning as counselors and practitioners in community mental health settings, institutions, hospitals, schools and private practice (it offers an CACREP accreditation)
which one you think is better for me (* having in mind that I want to work for the goverment with criminals or troubled youth ?)
I want to continue in the field of psychology no in Social Work because I want to get my PsyD in 8-10 years and since I plan to do my doctorate in the same university I want to tranfer some of the credits, which is very possible if I stay in the field to get my PsyD. in psychology

if you really care you are needed in the last i will explain more now that my cat jumped down. i am a mental health person that thinks we need more case workers for the mental health system and we need more that will take this seriously there are so many that come and go as fast as the wind and we need those who will make us feel like they want to spend more time with us and not last only a short time. we sometimes have trouble opening up to them because we wonder how long they will be here and how soon we have to start over with our treatment because we have to almost break them in. i have a dream that we will soon have a system that will help us stay out of facillities. i have been in a apartment for aprox. 15 years but never dreamed of doing this for even 5 years. i have accomplished and i wish i could have a type of place to live in that is like the show friends .monica is the house mother and she allows others to come into her apartment and get together. i love this type of situation.l we all need some one and some where to come together. in missouri where i lived in a tri plex. there were 2 tri plexes ,we all took care of each other.

Get an MSW.
I seriously don't understand why you are even considering the other two qualifications. MSWs are in greater demand than either of the other two, particularly in government settings.
MAs in psychology aren't as employable as an MSW. The CACREP program is usually geared for people who want to be guidance or career counselors, the accreditation is less meaningful outside of a school setting.
Look at job announcements for the job you'd eventually like to have. I doubt you'll see many people asking for CACREP certification to work with teenagers in jail, its all MSWs.
