What's with that?
Answer by Mr Ed
Mental health affects behaviour, and one's behaviour affects others. So when there is a mental health problem, others will tend to avoid the person having the problem. That is why nobody wants to recognize they have a problem. On the other hand, their not recognizing it will not make it go away, and if they are willing to see a therapist, they might find the help they need, to either deal with the problem effectively, or at least live with it. So the very thing they fear, they are aggravating by refusing to get help.
Most people today won't consider you are crazy because you see a therapist.

Well its due mainly because of a lack of understanding and knowlege. People remember the days when there were asylums and thats where all the "crazy, luney people got locked up" people hold on to that fear. The other issue is that mental illness is not like a broken leg or an epileptic fit you can't see it so therefore if you cannot see it does it even exsist? there are no physical tests that can determine if a person is mentally ill. It is all done through judgement and asessment of a person's behavior, emotions and physical symptoms.
The other thing is that the media is not always reliable as many people pick up on the news, read papers hear about mentally ill people who have committed horrific crimes e.g as in the case of murder but even though it does happen it is actually quite rare.
Alot of people feel that someone with mental health problems are dangerous to the public infact this is not true the majority of those suffering are more likely to do harm to themselves then anything.
I also think it's down the person's opinion and individual reaction some people grow up in an enviroment where they are taught to put a lid on their emotions, to stand up for themselves and not take things seriously and for that reason they may use that against others who they see are having problems as being weak in someway.

There is so much ignorance when it comes to Mental Diseases and Disorders. It is people like that who prevent many from getting the help that they need that could change their lives for the better. Also there really is no such thing as crazy that word is a great part of the stigma.
