Did I cross the line?

Did I cross the line?A co-worker e-mailed a question to all the staff, asking them to send her a write-up of what they are most thankful for this holiday. I did not realize all the comments went into a newsletter mass e-mailed to all the staff. I said, "Hi … I've been trying to think of a long write-up about what the holidays mean to me, but only two things keep coming to mind and I don't think any further explanation is needed. I am thankful for Jesus Christ and what He has done for me as well as spending time with family. That is what the holidays mean to me. Thanks - Diane" I know one other person (my boss) mentioned God in her write-up. However, because I work for a secular mental health center, I feel I may have crossed the line in that write-up. However, nobody has said anything to me yet ... and quite a few of my co-workers who are on Facebook know that I am a liberal Christian (Episcopalian) who loves and accepts everyone. Am I overreacting here?

You should be fine. First of all, you didn't know everyone would see it. And most people respect and understand that there are people of different religions. No one will probably say anything. And if something is said about it, just apologize politely and explain that you didn't know everyone would be able to read it.

Christianity is the dominant religion in america(I'm assuming you live in the US). Unless the people you work with are a bunch of neo nazi atheists, I doubt what you said will hurt you in the long run.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your response. However, the person who sent the original e-mail should've mentioned that your responses were going to be printed on the newsletter. If you are religious and that's what you are truly thankful for, don't regret that you said what you said... especially since another person mentioned God, it's not like you were required to be politically correct. :)

Yes, you are over reacting. Relax. Anyone who shuns a person because they believe in Jesus Christ and loves their family is someone not worth worrying about what they think about in the first place.

You did fine. The health centre is secular, but it doesn't require the employees to be.
