You really need to call the hospital and ask. Some people can have clothes, underwear, bath gels, lotions, etc. Other people are not allowed anything except the hospital issued clothing and toiletries.

It depends on the hospital and what ward they are on. If they are in the psychiatric intensive care unit, then you probably aren't going to be able to give them much of anything. Even on the non ICU wards there are some strange restrictions (ie no pens, no erasers or pencils with erasers). Like someone else mentioned, it's best to call and ask the hospital or nurses. I'd think a paperback book would be safe, so long as it is light reading. Warm socks might be nice, too (the floors are darn cold in there).

Do they have a radio or a CD player or tape player? They could probably take that. A journal or diary....books, magazines...MAYBE on of those plants that look like trees..to take care of...a teddy bear etc..... p.j.s ..housecoat..houseshoes...If they smoke.....be sure they get cigarettes.(I don't care..you need cigarettes in those places and it's no time to try to stop. Stopping is for when you're getting it together...not when you're falling apart) Money for the machines. (in change) Can't think of anything else. Flowers..if the hosp. allows them.BE SURE SHE KNOWS HER RIGHTS...HAS A COPY OF THEM..AND HAS SOMEBODY TO PROTECT HER RIGHTS FOR HER.
