In terms of mental health what are they looking for with a cat scan?My phyciatrist is sending me for a cat scan and blood tests but all ive found they use catscans on the brain is to find tumors and stuff.
So what is she expecting to find?
What are they looking for?

Usually if you have depression and/or anxiety they will do all of these sorts of tests to rule out any physical ailment. So you are right... CT scans help find tumors, aneurysms, etc. The reason for doing this is that depression and anxiety can manifest in actual physical symptoms that are similar to symptoms of other illnesses/conditions. To treat mental health conditions doctors first need to be sure that you have a clean bill of health otherwise. And speaking from experience, anxiety and depression can make your body do all kinds of goofy things that have no explanation and make you feel like you're actually sick somehow... but in the end it is really all in your head. Which sucks. Because that is difficult to fix and/or learn how to deal with. Good luck, hon, and feel better!

sometimes tumors touch or activate a certian part of the brain. and it makes the mind have problems.

there just checking to see if you have that

Your doc simply wants to find any structural/functional abnormalities in your brain. It's just the doctor trying to be thourough. The blood tests are a way to find if there's a chemical reason for your problems. The human brain is an incredibly complex instrument, and to eliminate any possibly organic problem as the cause would be the best scientific method.

Your shrink will have a much better idea of what exactly is wrong, (if anything), and will be able to decide what treatment is best.

It is scary to be transported into that big donut, but if it helps your doctor to decide whether your your difficulties are caused by a physical problem, or a psychological one, it would be well worth the effort.

Most analyses by CAT find nothing wrong with with a person's brain. Your doc probably isn't looking for anything; she's just tying to eliminate possibilities. Don't let it give you any more anxiety. They're not expecting anything amiss, they're just being careful.

Hope this helps.
