How can a condo association address mental health concerns?

How can a condo association address mental health concerns?I own a condo in a small building in South Florida. One of the unit owners suffers from Schizophrenia and recently has started threatening neighbors in the building. It has gotten to the point where neighbors fear leaving their home and have demanded action by the association. Does anyone have any advice on how to address this situation?

Threats should be handled by the police. If the person is truly mentally ill, and poses a significant danger to himself or to others, then you should call the police. The association can enforce the association rules and unless the person is directly breaking association rules, the association will not get involved.

There is not much the HOA can do. An HOA strictly manages the maintenance of the property. They have no liablity or respsonsibilty for any residents actions. It is not their job to do anything about it. They are not a landlord and do not chose who lives there. You all own your units so nobody can evict him. I'm not really sure what you expect the HOA to do.

You and the neighbors simply need to call the police anytime he bothers or harasses you, just like any other neighborhood without an HOA.

The HOA should not get involved, other then bringing in the police.

They need to do this ASAP, as it could quickly escalate into a very violent and dangerous situation for the residents.
