I guess she's in denial.

Sometimes people go into denial about a loved one's diagnosis because they don't want to believe there's anything wrong with them.

There are some people who just can't face mental illness. Your mother is protecting herself because it would probably be to much for her to admit it. Also your mothers age may have a lot to do with it. At 70 she probably doesn't know or understand what mental illness is all about. When she was young unfortunately there were no diagnoses or medications for mental illness. People were just put away and thought to have been crazy. Nobody could ever have conceived at that time that there are Mental Diseases. If I were you I would just accept the fact that your mother isn't going to understand or discuss it. So don't talk to her about it if you can help it. It probably disturbs her emotionally when you do. Try to understand and see her view. I am sorry that you have a mental disease and hope that your medications do help you.
