1. Well, some certain foods affect us by releasing endorphins in our brain system. They give us the feeling of calmness and happiness. These foods could include popcorn which increases our serotonin levels. Bananas, dark chocolate and sour cherry. This is also why food addicts have it harder to quit their bad habits due to the fact that they use food as a substitute for happiness. But when the serotonin levels sink they want them to rise again and then they eat those foods and the cycle repeats.
2. Every cell of our body needs water to function. As we are made of 2/3 of water. Water helps our energy and FOCUS. We concentrate better. It cleanses the body of toxins which come from products made by man and it keeps the blood from thickening. And kidneys function better.
3. To change your thoughts you need to reprogram your subconscious mind. Consciously you want to achieve something, and your subconscious mind is behind the wall of your past but what keeps you from achieving something that you want. You can change it by hypnosis, or therapy.
The books I've read are mostly Swedish books. I don't know what they're called in English. But I suggest learning from the internet for further information. Just type in "mental health or psychology learning online or facts about psychology"

Hard questions but I'll try to give you some information!
1. Sugar is believed to make people inclined to feel depressed and down. You need to eat less sugar, be active, exercise and make walks to keep your body in shape- feeling good depends very much on your overall physical condition so if you feel fit and healthy.
2. Being dehydrated doesn't help your mind. It needs normal supply of water, oxygen and all other chemicals to function properly. Since water helps fluids to circulate in your body water surely helps provide the brain with everything it needs.
3. To stay in good mental condition you need to observe your thoughts, find out if there are persisting negative ones (of low self-esteem, bad future expectations, worries, assuming other people dislike you, or similar)- and if you find you have negative thoughts try to stop them and then change them with more positive ones.
Some great books are "The road less traveled" by Dr. M. Scott Peck, and "Change your thoughts-change your life" by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer (google the name and you'll also find his blog and lots of useful information)
